The battle for law and order in Washington, D.C. just got real.

President Trump’s handpicked U.S. Attorney for D.C., Ed Martin, is on the verge of being timed out. Unless the Senate Judiciary Committee acts fast—by tonight—Martin could be out, and a federal judge could pick his replacement.

That replacement likely won’t be friendly to Trump’s agenda.

On Monday’s WarRoom, Steve Bannon and Mike Howell talked about the dire situation:

Martin was appointed to a temporary 120-day term. That ends May 20th. To stay on the job, he must be confirmed by the Senate. But here’s the catch: The Judiciary Committee must notice a hearing by tonight. Without that step, the confirmation can’t even move forward.

Howell of The Heritage Foundation broke it down on War Room with Steve Bannon. His message? This is a test. For the Senate. For Trump’s second-term agenda. For the entire law-and-order movement.

Martin has been getting things done.

He’s gone after illegal guns. He’s taken on cop-haters and violent criminals. Crime is reportedly down 25% in the district since he took over.

Locals feel the difference. Even Bannon noted how quiet and safe Capitol Hill has become. "You can feel it,” he said. "It’s different.”

Martin flipped the U.S. Attorney’s office from political prosecution to real law enforcement. His predecessor, Matthew Graves, focused almost entirely on January 6 cases—over 1,600 of them. But Martin came in with one mission: clean up D.C.

And that’s precisely what he’s been doing.

So why the holdup?

Chuck Schumer and Adam Schiff don’t want Martin confirmed. Schiff’s even gone after Martin personally. That tells you a lot. The left doesn’t fear Martin because he’s tough on crime. They fear him because he might turn the lawfare machine around—on them.

They’re scared he’ll hold people accountable for the abuses of the past few years.

Even more troubling? Some Republicans on the Judiciary Committee are dragging their feet. Mike Howell didn’t name names, but he pointed to Senators like Tillis and Cornyn. They haven’t come out against Martin, but they haven’t pushed for him either.

Senator Chuck Grassley has the power to notice the hearing. It’s on him now. If Grassley doesn’t act by tonight, Martin is done.

And here’s what happens next: Chief Judge James Boasberg gets to appoint the next U.S. Attorney. Not Trump. Not the Senate. A judge.

Boasberg is no ally of Trump’s agenda.

This is a fork in the road.

Confirm Martin—and stay on offense. Or let the judge take over—and risk the return of political prosecutions, soft-on-crime policies, and chaos in the streets.
