A series of transformations have marked Tulsi Gabbard’s political journey. Initially a staunch Democrat, her perspective began to shift during her tenure in the military, where close interaction with fellow service members exposed her to their frustrations and struggles. Their stories resonated with her, compelling her to transcend partisan divides in search of solutions that prioritized the concerns of ordinary citizens over political agendas.

Gabbard appeared on the WarRoom with Steve Bannon on Friday and talked about the details of her political transformation and the latest developments in her life since serving as a Democrat representative and running for President as a Democrat.

Embracing a more populist ideology now more than ever, Gabbard told Bannon that she had fully embraced the idea that the meaningful change she wanted to make could only be achieved by addressing the people’s genuine needs rather than blindly adhering to the Democratic party doctrine.

With a real sense of purpose, Gabbard said she has embarked on a crusade to champion policies that amplify the voices of the people who are most important to her—people who also love and cherish America.

However, Gabbard’s foray into the America First Populist movement has not been without its challenges. As a former Democratic presidential candidate, she grappled with conflicting views about President Trump that did not align with his supporters.

Despite several public statements years ago about Trump as a Republican that still haunt her, her departure from the Democratic Party became unmistakable, as evidenced by her early April rejection to be the Vice president candidate for independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Even though there are some lingering hesitations about her political future and potential alliances, Gabbard remains resolute in her commitment to serving the country. America First proponents, including President Trump himself, are warming up to Gabbard in political leadership.

Gabbard’s book, titled For Love of Country: Leave the Democrat Party Behind, was released on April 30, 2024. 

The book is a harsh rebuke of the Democrat party, describing the reason for her rejection as  “the growing wokeness, fomenting racism, and intolerance were more than she could stomach, and she left. This is her story and a call to action to Americans who love our country and cherish peace and freedom.”

"I answered the call to serve and swore an oath,  dedicating my life to supporting and defending the Constitution, both in uniform and in public office. I have always been independent but became a Democrat when I first ran for office because I saw a party that stood up for the little guy, free speech, and civil liberties. That party is no more,”  Gabbard said in the book.

Now, Gabbard is rumored to be on the short-list of possible Vice Presidential picks for President Donald Trump.

Throughout her political odyssey, Gabbard has courted controversy, from her contentious meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad during the country’s civil war to her decision to vote “present” during Trump’s impeachment proceedings in 2019. Despite facing criticism from both sides of the political spectrum, Gabbard’s public transition away from the Democratic Party serves as a poignant reminder of the growing disillusionment many Americans feel marginalized and disaffected by traditional party politics.

Her willingness to accept the possibility of becoming Trump’s vice-presidential pick underscores her independent stance and authentic desire to tackle the nation’s challenges head-on.
