Congressman Scott Perry, chair of the House Freedom Caucus, appeared on the WarRoom program on Thursday, and elaborated on the importance of the Save Act, which aims to ensure voter integrity by requiring the verification of citizenship for voters in federal elections.

Perry framed it as a crucial measure to prevent future election disputes and restore public trust, especially in battleground states like Pennsylvania: “If you’re gonna play this game, you’re gonna have to pass the CR with the Save Act on it.”

“No one’s ever prosecuted for this,” he remarked, underscoring how the failure to enforce existing laws has contributed to the problem.

One of Perry’s key concerns is how easy it is for non-citizens to register to vote, particularly in states like Pennsylvania with motor voter laws. He described a scenario in which someone seeking a driver’s license might inadvertently register to vote due to the lack of proper checks: "You’re not going to say no, you’re just gonna say, ‘hello, whatever gets the process done.’” This ease of registration, combined with the mailing of unsolicited ballots, further complicates the issue. "Millions are mailed out because… no one requests a mail-in ballot in Pennsylvania, you just get them sent to you,” Perry said, referring to the proliferation of mail-in ballots that are not tied to specific individuals.

According to Perry, the Save Act aims to address these issues by putting "teeth” into enforcing voting laws. The legislation would require states to verify citizenship as part of the voting process, which Perry says is already mandated by federal law but rarely enforced. “It’s already against the law, it’s just nobody does anything about it,” Perry emphasized. The Save Act would ensure that those who vote illegally would face criminal consequences, providing much-needed accountability in the system.

Perry also addressed the political challenges of passing the Save Act, particularly in getting federal and state cooperation. He noted that many states are reluctant to enforce these rules, as it undermines their broader political strategies. "Many of these states don’t want to do it because this is all part of the plan,” Perry explained, referencing the advantage gained from many untethered votes. Despite claims that elections are secure, Perry criticized the lack of voter roll maintenance, pointing out that "dead people are voting… the rolls are never cleaned up.”

When asked about the potential for the Save Act to move forward, Perry indicated that there is growing support from key figures in Washington, including President Trump and Speaker Mike Johnson. “President Trump has signaled he’s in favor of it, Speaker Mike Johnson is saying he might be in favor of it,” Perry revealed. He expressed optimism that the Save Act could be tied to a continuing resolution (CR) on government spending, which would apply pressure to get the legislation moving.
