Certification Day Battleground Report: January 6, 2025
The political landscape looks vastly different four years after January 6, 2021. Monday’s WarRoom program opened with Steve Bannon reflecting on the events of that infamous day. His tone was solemn, charged with historical weight, as he labeled it a turning point for the MAGA movement and American politics.
Bannon zeroed in on the “Judas Pence” letter, penned by then-Vice President Mike Pence. To him, this letter was the ultimate betrayal—a trigger that ignited the passions of the crowds gathered at the U.S. Capitol. Bannon accused Pence of acting unilaterally, failing to consult with the White House or President Trump before releasing the letter. “That’s what triggered everything,” Bannon declared.

A Movement’s Lowest Point
The fallout from January 6 led to a dark chapter for the MAGA movement. President Trump, who had been at the pinnacle of American politics, was soon “run out of town.” Bannon recalled the heartbreak and abandonment that followed. “Everybody abandoned us,” he said, emphasizing that even within MAGA, loyalty faltered. According to Bannon, the movement lost about a third of its supporters in the aftermath.
Yet, he framed this as a providential moment. Bannon portrayed Trump as a “Providential Instrument of holy God,” arguing that the trials of the past four years awakened the nation to the “radicalness” of globalists and neo-Marxists.
The Green Bay Sweep
Bannon revisited the plan he dubbed the “Green Bay Sweep,” which aimed to leverage the Electoral Count Act of 1887 to delay certification. This would have sent contested electoral results back to state legislatures for review. The ultimate goal, Bannon claimed, was to prevent certification of Joe Biden’s electors, forcing a contingent election in the House of Representatives.
But Pence’s letter ended those plans. Released just as Congress convened, it affirmed that the Vice President lacked the constitutional authority to reject or delay electoral votes. Bannon described this as the “mortal sin” that sealed MAGA’s temporary downfall.
Four Years Later
Now, on January 6, 2025, MAGA finds itself resurgent. The day marks the historic certification of Donald J. Trump’s re-election—a moment Bannon described as the culmination of the “greatest comeback in political history.”
Bannon urged his audience to remember the heartbreak of 2021 and use it as fuel for continued vigilance. “You weren’t just part of this comeback; you were the driving force,” he told his listeners.
The program highlighted the enduring challenges of the past four years, from Biden’s presidency to a nation grappling with division. Bannon argued that the events of January 6, 2021, were not in vain. Instead, they served as a wake-up call, galvanizing the MAGA movement to restore what he called the Republic’s foundational principles.
Moving Forward
Bannon’s message was clear: MAGA is not just a political movement but a revolutionary force aimed at reclaiming America’s destiny. He framed the past four years as a period of awakening, one that exposed the deep fractures in the nation’s political and cultural fabric.
As Trump prepares to be sworn in again, Bannon’s rhetoric strikes a defiant tone. “We’ve gone through a lot,” he said. “But this is a Providential victory.”
The MAGA movement, battered but not broken, stands at a pivotal moment. For its supporters, January 6, 2025, is not just a date—it’s a vindication of their struggle and a symbol of their resolve.
Bannon closed the program by urging vigilance, reminding his audience of the stakes involved. “You are the vanguard,” he said. “The revolution to return this Republic to its foundations begins anew today.”
