The House Ethics Committee is behind the leaking of the existence of a reopened investigation into Congressman Matt Gaetz, a source familiar with the matter tells War Room.
Liberal media outlets Punchbowl and CNN have both published reports saying that the House Ethics Committee has re-opened a probe into Rep. Matt Gaetz. The probe is over allegations that the DOJ already cleared Gaetz for.
The source told War Room “this probe is revenge for Rep. Gaetz standing up to leadership.”
Punchbowl, a D.C. based outlet that covers Congres, was the first outlet to report on the House Ethics Committee re-opening the probe. Punchbowl’s report came in the days following Rep. Gaetz standing up to Speaker McCarthy’s debt ceiling deal.
War Room’s source says that Rep. Gaetz’ office first heard word of the Ethics Committee pursuing this investigation right when Gaetz announced he would oppose the debt ceiling deal.
Rep. Gaetz has stood in opposition to House Republican leadership throughout the year and led the effort to challenge Kevin McCarthy in the Speaker’s election.
The leaking of the existence of a probe into Rep. Gaetz is problematic as it is against Congressional rules for the House Ethics Committee to divulge confidential information to the press.
This is a sad story….
