Heartland Reality Check: Trump’s Steel Backbone Faces War Games and Rust Belt Wounds

Congressman Marlin Stutzman joined Dave Brat on Wednesday’s WarRoom to deliver a blunt diagnosis from America’s manufacturing heartland: the nation faces dangerous global instability, economic anxiety, and D.C. delusion—but President Trump, not Biden, is in the driver’s seat, and he’s the only one capable of restoring strength through hardline diplomacy, economic realism, and America First resolve. Flyover country isn’t confused—it’s ready.

During their conversation, Stutzman, a former Indiana congressman, gave a raw, unfiltered update from deep within the Midwest—what the political class condescendingly calls "flyover country.” The subject? Global war drums, economic turmoil, and the contrast between Trump’s strength and the weakness still lingering from the Biden years.

Stutzman began by echoing the alarm sounded by national security expert Sam Faddis: the Middle East is on the brink, and Iran’s nuclear ambitions are not theoretical—they are an immediate threat. Having recently visited Israel, Stutzman spoke firsthand about witnessing Hamas rocket attacks and Houthis launching missiles from Yemen. He firmly asserted that a nuclear Iran would be an existential threat, not just to Israel or the U.S., but to the entire civilized world. His message was clear: this is not just Israel’s problem, and it’s not a "game.”

Stutzman praised President Trump as the most capable leader on the global stage since Ronald Reagan. He noted that Trump’s lifelong experience as a dealmaker and tough negotiator is exactly what’s needed now. While some in Washington cheerlead conflict from a distance, Trump’s strategy prioritizes diplomacy backed by force—not virtue-signaling or endless war. Stutzman warned that Iran cannot be confronted by the U.S. and Israel alone. The Saudis, Turks, and other regional actors must step up.

On the domestic front, the conversation turned to the economy—and the wounds inflicted by decades of bad trade policy. Stutzman painted a sobering picture of the Midwest, where manufacturing has slowly eroded, and population decline has followed. Steel, auto, and agriculture once defined Indiana’s economic identity. Now, with factories shipped off to China and Mexico, the heartland has suffered.

However, under Trump’s leadership, Stutzman sees cautious optimism returning. Trump is resetting the economic stage—pushing supply-side reforms and unapologetically standing up to globalist interests. But there’s still lag time. America is still recovering from Biden’s $2 trillion deficit spending spree, an out-of-control Federal Reserve, and the regulatory chokehold of recent years.

Stutzman didn’t sugarcoat it: there’s nervousness in his district, but also deep trust that Trump will finish what he started. The war footing abroad complicates things, but it doesn’t deter voters who understand the stakes. The Trump agenda—jobs, trade reform, national sovereignty—is not abstract policy. For people in Fort Wayne and the Midwest, it’s survival.

Dave Brat closed by reinforcing the most important theme: Trump’s America First policies aren’t about isolationism. They’re about prioritizing U.S. workers, securing the homeland, and avoiding foreign entanglements unless absolutely necessary. If war is forced upon us, let it be by choice, not by provocation—or weakness.

Bottom Line:
While elites play chess with lives and livelihoods, Trump has both hands on the wheel. Flyover country isn’t flying blind—it’s watching, waiting, and backing the only man strong enough to face a collapsing world with clear eyes and steel resolve.
