Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton has called for a special prosecutor appointed directly by President Trump and the White House to investigate alleged corruption in the Justice Department and efforts to target Trump. Speaking with Steve Bannon on WarRoom, Fitton outlined his vision for holding government agencies accountable, calling the current system "compromised” and incapable of self-regulation.
Judicial Watch Exposes Evidence of Collusion
Fitton’s call comes on the heels of a significant court victory against Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. Judicial Watch uncovered records of communications between Willis’s office and Nancy Pelosi’s January 6th Committee, despite earlier claims that no such documents existed.
"They told us, not once, but four times, that there were no documents,” Fitton said. "We sued, and the court forced them to fess up. Now we’ve got proof of communication between the January 6th Committee and the so-called independent investigation in Fulton County targeting Trump.”
The court also ordered Willis’s office to pay $20,000 in attorney’s fees to Judicial Watch for their noncompliance.

A Special Prosecutor Is Essential
Fitton insisted that only an independent prosecutor, appointed by the President, can restore trust in the justice system. "The Justice Department can’t investigate itself,” he said. "We need a special counsel directly out of the White House to dig into this.”
He emphasized that such a prosecutor would need full independence to investigate both the targeting of Trump and broader allegations of corruption in government agencies. "These are criminal investigations,” Fitton said. "This has to come from the top—from President Trump.”
Exposing the Deep State
Fitton painted a dire picture of systemic corruption in Washington, warning of entrenched bureaucrats working against accountability. "There are thousands of James Comeys and Andrew McCabes still in the system,” he said, referring to former FBI officials accused by conservatives of political bias.
Bannon pressed Fitton on what Congress and a potential Trump administration could do to expose these issues. Fitton responded, "Congress can investigate, but they’re limited by the sheer scope of corruption. This needs to be a focused effort, led by someone outside the Justice Department.”
Judicial Watch: The People’s Justice Department
Bannon praised Judicial Watch for its relentless pursuit of government transparency. "Judicial Watch is the people’s Justice Department,” Bannon said. "You’re heroes in this fight.”
Fitton highlighted other Judicial Watch efforts, including lawsuits about the killing of Ashli Babbitt and exposing election-related irregularities. "We’re not stopping,” he said. "We’re here to get the receipts, and we won’t back down.”
Restoring Accountability and Public Trust
Fitton stressed the importance of laying bare the truth about the 2020 election, January 6th, and the Justice Department’s role in investigating Trump. "The American people deserve to know what happened,” he said. "This isn’t about politics. It’s about restoring accountability.”
The Path Forward
Fitton ended with a bold recommendation for Trump and his allies: act decisively. "Appoint a special counsel. Staff it up. Get to work,” he said. "This is how we restore faith in our institutions and ensure justice is served.”
