Viral videos claiming mass celebrations in Venezuela are largely fabricated, recycled, or AI-generated, according to on-the-ground reporting from Oscar Blue Ramirez, who says fear and repression still dominate daily life inside the country.

OSCAR BLUE RAMIREZ (GUEST): A lot of these videos are AI. A lot of these videos are soccer game celebrations. A lot of these videos are past protest celebrations that they are basically using to just get clicks and likes. That’s the only thing, and to disinform the population, Steve.
But until now, this is the reality. The Venezuelan people are not going outside, are not celebrating. They’re afraid. They are happy, but they’re afraid. This is what happened when I was right there five or six days ago. I was talking to all these citizens, and they were saying, "You know what, we’re waiting for the moment that this guy gets extracted, that there’s some kind of intervention by the United States of America. We’re happy that he’s been designated a narco terrorist. We’re happy that all these organizations are designated, but we cannot say it on camera. We’re afraid because we’re going to get detained, stopped, and arrested.”
So it’s exactly the same thing. You know, there’s a lot of videos of Venezuela celebrating. A lot of them are from outside. Let’s remember there are more than 12 million migrants from Venezuela outside of Venezuela. So it does not necessarily mean that they’re celebrating in Caracas or in whatever city inside Venezuela.
