In a Monday analysis for the WarRoom, Matt Boyle, Washington Bureau Chief for Breitbart News, provided an in-depth look at the current state of the presidential race, emphasizing Donald Trump’s advantageous position in the race to secure 270 electoral votes. Drawing from his extensive experience covering elections, Boyle highlighted the shifting dynamics and strategic advantages that could shape the outcome of the 2024 election.
"Trump has more pathways to 270 electoral votes than Kamala Harris does,” Boyle stated.
In a WarRoom segment with host Ben Harnwell, Boyle began by outlining the fundamental goal of winning the presidency: securing 270 electoral votes. He pointed out that Trump’s path to victory appears broader and more viable than Kamala Harris’s. "Trump has more pathways to 270 electoral votes than Kamala Harris does,” Boyle stated. This assertion underscores Trump’s strategic advantage, given the current electoral landscape.
Key to Boyle’s analysis is the changing political climate in traditionally battleground states. He noted that several states which were once fiercely contested have increasingly leaned Republican. “Florida, Ohio, and Iowa have all moved red,” Boyle explained. These states, totaling 53 electoral votes, have seen a significant shift, with Democrats essentially conceding them in their campaign strategy. This shift not only impacts the overall electoral map but also narrows the competitive field for Harris.
Boyle elaborated on Trump’s strong position in these states, stating, "The numbers across the board—whether it’s Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona—seem to show that Donald Trump is the favorite candidate right now.” His analysis is supported by polling data indicating Trump’s lead in these crucial battleground states. For instance, in Pennsylvania, Trump’s lead is reflected in both public and private polls. Boyle noted that internal campaign polls show Trump leading Harris by approximately two percent in Pennsylvania, which could prove pivotal in the race.
The strategic implications of Trump’s position are significant. Boyle explained that if Trump secures states like Georgia and North Carolina, he would amass a substantial number of electoral votes, bringing him closer to the 270-vote threshold. "If Trump is able to flip Georgia back and win North Carolina, he gets to 250 electoral votes,” Boyle detailed. This positioning underscores Trump’s multiple pathways to victory, even without winning other battleground states like Arizona or Nevada.
Conversely, Boyle criticized Harris’s campaign, particularly its failure to generate a post-convention bounce. He attributed this lack of momentum to the disconnect between the Democrats’ messaging and the electorate’s current concerns.
“The Democrats have been telling everybody to have joy when things are not joyful in America right now,” Boyle remarked.
He argued that the Democrats’ focus on a message of “joy” and “hope” fails to address the electorate’s pressing issues, such as economic hardship and safety concerns, which are prominent in the current political climate.
Boyle also highlighted Harris’s avoidance of press interactions, suggesting it might be a strategic move to limit exposure to difficult questions. "They’re going to have to start doing interviews, they’re going to have to face the questions,” Boyle asserted. This point underscores the mounting pressure on Harris to engage more directly with the media and address voter concerns.
