Hans von Spakovsky from the Heritage Foundation and Dave Brat focused on the SAVE Act on Saturday’s WarRoom program. The SAVE Act is a proposed measure designed to prevent illegal aliens from voting.
He argued that “the conservative side needs to take the very specific examples of prosecutions of aliens who’ve registered and are voting” and amplify these cases to educate the public.
This approach, he suggested, is crucial for increasing awareness and driving political action. By highlighting real instances of fraud and emphasizing the growing problem, activists can galvanize public opinion and pressure lawmakers to act.
Von Spakovsky laid out a clear strategy for activists and policymakers, emphasizing the need to address and amplify specific aspects of the SAVE Act to mobilize public opinion and political support effectively.
Von Spakovsky pointed out the bipartisan support for the SAVE Act, noting that “Americans don’t believe aliens should be voting and that goes across all political lines.”
He talked to Brat about the widespread dissatisfaction with the current election system, where non-citizens’ votes can potentially dilute the influence of American voters—highlighting recent actions in Texas and Virginia, where state authorities removed thousands of illegal registrations from voter rolls. In Texas alone, 6,500 illegal registrations were purged following DMV record checks, while Virginia saw 6,300 removals.
These figures, he reminded the audience, prove the scale of the problem and the need for legislative action.
Despite the apparent public and political support for the SAVE Act, von Spakovsky pointed out that both Speaker Johnson and the Senate have been notably silent on the issue.
He speculated that this hesitation might stem from political calculations, suggesting that “Democrats want aliens registering. They want aliens voting because they believe it will help them in elections.” This argument reflects a broader contention that partisan interests may influence the legislative process, hindering progress on election integrity.
Von Spakovsky and Brat both expressed frustration over the lack of traction the SAVE Act has gained compared to other pressing issues like inflation and the economy. Von Spakovsky attributed this to “the propaganda of the left,” which he believes has minimized the perceived importance of voter fraud and illegal voting. According to him, the mainstream media often downplays the issue, leading to public skepticism about its severity.
To counteract this, von Spakovsky called on conservative activists to focus on specific, tangible examples of voter fraud and illegal registrations.
Von Spakovsky’s message to the WarRoom posse was clear: to make the SAVE Act a political priority, activists must shift the narrative by presenting concrete evidence of voter fraud, challenging media downplay, and leveraging the widespread public concern about election integrity.
