After a year of demanding work and unwavering dedication to the cause, it is time to restore and refocus our energy. While the national stage,
especially the 2024 presidential race, captured much of our attention last year, it is crucial to widen our scope in 2025. To secure lasting change, we must now channel our efforts into local and statewide politics, ensuring that our energy and commitment translate into victories in Congress, the Senate, and our state governments.
“All politics is local.” — Tip O’Neill
The stakes are clear. While national elections often grab headlines, the foundation of political power lies closer to home. Governors, state senators, state representatives, and local officials shape policies that directly impact our daily lives. These offices are often overlooked, but they handle immense power over issues like education, public safety, taxation, and election integrity. If we want to protect and advance the values which we fought so diligently for last year, we must become as laser-focused on these positions as we were for Donald J. Trump’s campaign.
Flipping Congressional and Senate seats is essential, but this goal will remain out of reach if we neglect the state and local environment that prepare future leaders. This means engaging with your state representatives and state senators, holding them accountable, and ensuring that they defend and uphold the issues that matter most to you. Start by familiarizing yourself with your state legislature. Who represents your district? Are they aligned with your values? If not, what can you do to hold them accountable or replace them? This process requires research and community involvement, but the payoff is worth the effort.
Governorships are equally critical. Governors set the tone for state policy and play a pivotal role in redistricting and election oversight. Ensuring strong leadership at the state level can help battle federal overreach and provide a shield against policies that don’t align with your beliefs.
“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” — Theodore Roosevelt
The grassroots energy that powered through last year must now be revived for a broader mission. The same tactics that drove turnout and enthusiasm for Trump—door-knocking, phone banking, postcard writing, social media campaigns, and community events can be applied to flipping Congressional and Senate seats. But we can’t stop there. Local races often come down to a few hundred votes. Imagine the impact if every person who supported Trump’s 2024 campaign committed to volunteering for a city council or school board race. These seemingly, small victories build the footings for larger, more sweeping changes.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” — Margaret Mead
The challenging work is not over—it’s evolving. Success at the state and local level strengthens our position nationally. By flipping seats in Congress and the Senate and securing ethical and honest leadership in our state capitals, we can ensure that the policies and ideals we cherish are defended. Let this year be a testament to our purpose. Together, we can take the lessons of 2024 and apply them to a broader, more expansive fight for the future of our communities, states, and nation. As we refused to stray from our commitment for victory at hand for President Trump, we understand the path forward requires hard work, focus, and unity—but the rewards will be worth it.
