In a fiery Thursday morning episode of Steve Bannon’s WarRoom, host Steve Bannon interviewed Dr. Steven Hatfill, a former White House advisor during the COVID-19 crisis, about a major health policy shake-up. Under the current President Donald Trump, Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has slashed nearly $500 million in federal funding for 22 projects developing mRNA vaccine technology.

Rather, they showed cellular havoc from mRNA overload.

This bold move has ignited fierce backlash from scientists, media outlets like NBC News, and late-night host Stephen Colbert, who called it a “dereliction of duty” and a step backward from the tech that powered rapid COVID-19 shots.

Bannon and Hatfill on Thursday’s program, however, hailed the decision as a crucial step toward “Making America Healthy Again” (MAHA). They argued that mRNA vaccines, once hailed as revolutionary, have proven dangerous and ineffective based on mounting scientific evidence. Hatfill, a data-focused scientist who worked closely with the Trump administration during the pandemic’s early days, walked listeners through the reasoning behind the cuts.
Starting in 2022, comprehensive meta-analyses—large-scale reviews of multiple studies—began revealing that mRNA vaccines offered no real benefit-risk advantage.
In fact, Hatfill explained, the risks outweighed the rewards: getting vaccinated was often more hazardous than catching COVID-19 and facing hospitalization. He described how the flood of mRNA molecules into cells creates “chemical havoc,” disrupting protein production, damaging tumor-suppressor genes, and harming mitochondria—the cell’s energy powerhouses. Even the spike protein coded in COVID vaccines was labeled “toxic” and “poisonous,” contributing to severe side effects like blood clots in the brain.
The duo praised Trump’s Operation Warp Speed for its urgent response in 2020, which rushed vaccines to market amid the crisis. But they stressed it was always meant to be monitored closely and halted at the first sign of problems. Adverse events surfaced quickly, leading to brief pauses in some vaccines.
Yet, companies like Pfizer and Moderna allegedly failed to ensure safety. Hatfill accused Big Pharma of prioritizing profits over people, suppressing data, and misleading the public. For instance, Pfizer tried to hide clinical trial results for 70 years until grassroots efforts, including Judicial Watch and Naomi Wolf’s team, forced their release through court orders. These documents showed vaccines did not reliably prevent infection, transmission, or reduce disease severity.
Bannon highlighted how the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had become a “supplicant” to the pharmaceutical industry, promoting flawed claims like saving 14.4 million lives—claims debunked as based on unreliable computer models. The vaccines, they said, injured hundreds of thousands and killed many, though exact numbers remain unclear. With no regulatory oversight from 2021 to 2024, drug companies “jumped in to make a dollar,” devastating families, primarily by pushing shots on low-risk children. The interview wasn’t just criticism; it was a call to arms. Bannon urged HHS, led by RFK Jr., to flood the public with irrefutable data to counter “demons” in the media and academia.
He warned that Big Pharma’s deep corruption—of medical schools, doctors, and institutions—won’t fade easily, as stock portfolios, not public health drive these entities. Hatfill promoted his free online book, compiling 700 peer-reviewed papers on vaccine injuries, as a resource for anyone to verify the harms.
Under Trump’s leadership, with “new sheriffs” like RFK Jr. and Elon Musk in the mix, they predicted an end to Big Pharma’s unchecked power. No one is anti-vaccine, Hatfill clarified; the issue is with unsafe “gene therapies” disguised as shots. Bannon vowed his platform’s support for ongoing battles, like banning pharma ads on TV, to rebuild trust through science and transparency.
This decision, they argued, is about preventing future suffering from preventable diseases.
As Bannon put it, it’s time to “rub their noses” in the data, holding accountable those who knowingly lied for profit. With grassroots warriors and top experts aligned, the MAHA movement aims to overhaul a profit-obsessed system, ensuring America’s health comes first. The podcast episode underscores a pivotal Trump-era shift: from pandemic panic to evidence-based reform.
