Today’s public impeachment hearings didn’t quite go the way the Democrats had hoped. Here are the top moments from the impeachment hearings and why they matter.
1 – THE BOMBSHELL
Democrats knew they needed a big moment today, so they appear to have seized on something quite flimsy. Nevertheless much of the establishment media ate it up. Possibly because they haven’t committed Ambassador William Taylor’s testimony to memory. And probably because much of the media have just become stenographers for any anti-Trump activity.
Think about what Taylor’s saying.
He’s saying that while his opening testimony statement of October 22nd 2019 said that “by mid-August, because the security assistance had been held for over a month for no reason I could discern“, his staff appeared to have knowledge of an overheard call between President Trump and Ambassador Sondland which Taylor claims to have had no knowledge of before last Friday.
That means his staff failed to report up a major alleged incident which had direct implications on an impeachment process of a president for a three and a half months.
It means his staff member didn’t tell anyone else about this over that period who could have then told Taylor.
It means Ambassador Sondland, who was in constant contact with Taylor and others, did not tell anyone either.
It stretches credulity in a massive way, and that’s why it was a big moment. Not because of why the media thinks.
2 – JIM JORDAN DESTROYS “STAR WITNESS” TAYLOR
It was the left media that pumped Taylor up as the Democrats’ star witness, which means it is safe to say the Dems were spinning that line themselves.
Except under cross-examination, Taylor crumbled.
Jordan asked him outright how Taylor knew what he knew. Was he on the call? Was he in the room? Had he spoken to Mick Mulvaney? Had he met with POTUS? No, no, no, no.

Pretty damning stuff.
3 – JORDAN’S KILL SHOT
Jim Jordan wasn’t done yet.
Having weakened Taylor’s credibility he went in for the kill. That is to show that what Taylor said he feared, throughout his whole testimony, didn’t end up happening anyway.

“President Zelensky had to commit to an investigation of the Bidens before the aid got released and the aid got released and he didn’t commit to an investigation?”
“I was not wrong about what I told you because that is what I heard,” Taylor quickly responded. “That’s all I’ve said, I’ve told you what I heard.”
“And that’s the point,” Jordan fired back. “What you heard did not happen. It didn’t happen. You had three meetings with the guy, he could have told you, he didn’t announce that he was going to do an investigation before the aid happened.”
“It’s not just could it have been wrong, the fact is, it was wrong, because it didn’t happen.” Jordan continued.
4. GEORGE KENT’S AWKWARD ADMISSION
This one kind of speaks for itself.
George Kent – who was sat there to try and establish wrongdoing by President Trump – admits that due to the corruption concerns in Ukraine there are ALWAYS conditionalities placed on U.S. aid there.

Bye bye, Democrat narrative!
5 – THE ‘STAR WITNESS’ ONLY KNOWS HEARSAY
Bill Taylor had to admit he had no direct knowledge of basically anything in this whole process. You’d think the Democrats would have known a witness like this would crumble under public cross examination but barring Taylor getting up and leaving, this moment couldn’t have been worse for them.
This wasn’t about evidence, or facts. Taylor admits he’s dabbling in second, third, and fourth party information.
He says outright, “What I can do here for you today is tell you what I heard from people.”

6 – DEMS SAY HEARSAY IS FINE
Given it was all they were left with by the end of the public testimonies today, it’s no surprise at least one Democrat tried to claim that hearsay was more useful for them (and more damning for President Trump) than actual evidence.
Here’s what Democrat Mike Quigley said this afternoon:

“Hearsay can be much better evidence than direct” is a pretty clear admission you’ve got NOTHING on the President.
Bring on the next hearings!
