On Episode 23 of War Room: Impeachment, Jason Miller and Raheem Kassam discuss why House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy hasn’t reorganized the Intelligence Committee, focusing on why he has failed to take War Room’s recommendation of adding the ‘killers,’ Rep. Gaetz, Rep. Zeldin, and Rep. Meadows.

Kassam provides background: “In 2016, there was a leaked bit of audio between McCarthy, Paul Ryan and a couple of others. They were all chuckling and joking amongst one another. One of the things that came out of the conversation and created headlines was McCarthy saying there’s 2 people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump.”

Kassam notes that Rep. McCarthy may publicly promote a message of unity, but “behind the scenes” he’s not proactively mounting a robust defense of the president.

Miller believes “It’s a little more political than that. He’s the GOP leader that wants to be Speaker. So he doesn’t want to ruffle the feathers of folks who might be around to vote for him or people who might be around in other leadership positions that he’s going to want their vote should we get the House back.”

However, “If President Trump is impeached, there isn’t going to be a GOP majority anytime soon. I mean it’s going to be far past his [McCarthy’s] time. There will be no chance for him to be Speaker if Trump is impeached. It is going to be so long until we get the House back and have a chance there.”

Kassam adds: “If the MAGA base realizes that it is because of the failures of Kevin McCarthy, House representatives, and all these guys to save the president, the guy that defeated Hillary Clinton, then there is never going to be a chance” for Republicans to hold a majority in the House.

Miller reiterates a central theme of today’s War Room: Impeachment episode: “We want the absolute killers. This Intel Committee needs to be stacked with the best and the brightest because the Democrats are stacking it with their best and brightest.”
