This past week was not the first time Lev Parnas’s name has been in the news.
A C-SPAN interview from June 2019 with left-wing news outlet Daily Beast reporter Lachlan Markay covered Parnas’s ties to Rudy Giuliani.
Markay called Parnas “a small node in this very large network of folks who have become suddenly very influential now that a political ally of theirs is in the White House” adding “You saw the same thing in the Obama administration and previous administrations.”
The interviewer asks: “You had a recent story about Rudy Giuliani’s ties to Ukraine. What did you find, and why is this significant?”
Markay responds: “It was really piggybacking of a New York Times story that reported on Giuliani speaking with folks in Ukraine attempting to essentially dig up dirt on Hunter Biden, son of Joe Biden, who had done a few business deals there. We examined a gentleman by the name of Lev Parnas who the New York Times reported, he’s a Ukrainian-born gentleman who lives in Florida, the New York Times reported that he had been sort of helping Giuliani out with this. We’d actually been following him for some time. He runs a company called Global Energy Producers which was a major donor to a superPAC supporting President Trump last year, and we’ve sort of been examining his various business and political ties to prominent figures in Trump world. We had reported that he was paid $22,500 by a lobbying firm called Ballard Partners last year which I understand was a client referral for them. He’s also looking through this company of his to secure major contracts having to do with the export of US natural gas to Europe, so it’s sort of a small node in this very large network of folks who have become suddenly very influential now that a political ally of theirs is in the White House. You saw the same thing in the Obama administration and previous administrations, but my job and my beat really is to figure out who those folks are right now. Who’s not being covered. Who’s maybe doing something that might benefit from a little sunlight, and to try to shine that light on it.”
While Parnas is certainly the ‘czar of all grifters‘, Twitter’s blue checkmark brigade and left-wing journalists losing their collective minds over his attempts at influencing President Trump represent yet another double standard for the Trump administration.
