On Episode 30 of War Room: Impeachment, hosts Stephen K. Bannon and Jason Miller discuss Adam Schiff’s opening statement for former US Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch’s public hearing.

Adam Schiff:

In her time in Kiev, Ambassador Yovanovitch was tough on corruption. Too tough on corruption for some and her principled stance made here enemies. As George Kent told the committee on Wednesday, you can’t promote principled anti-corruption action without pissing off corrupt people. And Ambassador Yovanovitch did not just piss off corrupt Ukrainians like the corrupt foreign Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko, but also certain Americans like Rudy Giuliani, Donald Trump’s personal attorney, and 2 individuals now indicted who worked with him: Igor Fruman and Lev Parnas. Lutsenko, Giuliani, Fruman, Parnas and others who would come to include the president’s own son, Don Jr., promoted a smear campaign against her based on false allegations.

To Bannon, it’s clear “That is trying to blunt Hunter Biden. They’re saying if you call [Hunter] Biden, we’ll call Don Jr.”

Miller expands on the allegations levied against Yovanovitch: “It’s also them trying to frame what the Republicans are going to come after Yovanovitch for. For example, one of the big things around the time she was dismissed, and this was the criticism that was coming from Mayor Giuliani and from Don Jr. and a whole host of others, they’re just throwing out those two names because they’re close to the president, but it was that she had given Ukraine’s top prosecutor a list of names she did not want to see prosecuted. Now this claim has been disputed. We’re going to see this fleshed out in the hearings today. But this is really the central point. This is why she felt there was this smear campaign against her.”

Also, “There were allegations that Yovanovitch had blocked Ukrainian officials from traveling to the US to hand over evidence of Obama and Democrat misconduct during 2016 election. This is key.”

To Bannon, it’s clear Democrats are trying to negate President Trump’s interest in rooting out corruption by promoting Yovanovitch as “the one actually interested in corruption.” The Democrats are attempting to show “She was trying to weed out corruption that pissed off corrupt people in Ukraine, and [Schiff] implied people in the United States government, Rudy Giuliani and the President of the United States, as well.”

Miller sees this as Democrats “trying to get ahead of it and trying to frame it.”
