On Episode 106 of War Room: Impeachment, Stephen K. Bannon explains the toll of endless foreign wars on America, emphasizing how President Trump’s deviation from establishment foreign policy was a major reason for his victory in 2016.
He explains how this message resonates: “The Afghanistan War has gone longer than the combat time of the American Revolution, the Civil War, WW1, and WW2 combined. That’s the losers. That’s what Trump ran against. That’s what the fire in the upper Midwest, how we broke the blue wall. It was with these blue collar Democrats whose kids go and fight.”
Bannon explains the untold impacts of these foreign wars: “The destruction of the family of the military. This is the 1% that serve. This is the quiet thing they don’t see. You do 9 deployments, the sergeant that is buried in Arlington today, that his young kids and his wife and his family, that’s just the tip of it. It’s the 9 deployments, 6 months to a year. That’s 8 or 9 years of his life that have been in these countries. Do they deserve American servicemen in there continually for 18 years?”
He expands: “This is why I think the movement and President Trump understands this. If he had listened and acted upon what was up on cable tv from people who I respect, are friends of mine, are colleagues of mine, and guys I really think the world of. If he had acted upon some of the recommendations the other night to go and start doing bombing runs we’d be in a world of hurt right now as a country, as a movement, and particularly his presidency.”
Bannon simplifies it: “The candidate that is the anti-war candidate wins.”
