Much attention is rightfully being paid to the 87,000 new IRS agents that will be hired because of the Democrats’ latest tax and spending bill. After all, few people outside of the professional left view the IRS with anything but distrust, especially with their documented history of targeting conservatives. Making matters worse, the private residence of former President Donald Trump is being raided in unprecedented fashion, leading to further erosion of trust between the government and its citizens.
Both episodes are the latest in a long series of the Biden Administration and its enablers in Congress extending the tentacles of the federal government into areas it doesn’t belong – undermining our federalist principles and Constitution in the process. From day one of this failed administration, Biden and his class of bureaucrats have tried to meddle in every facet of our life with their persistent overreach.
They want the government to make medical decisions for us and threaten the livelihoods of anyone who dares think for themselves. They want us all driving electric cars and have instituted policies that make traditional sources of power utterly unaffordable. They have forced the military to go woke and dismissed the idea of parental control over their kids’ education. Failed Democrat gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe let the cat out of the bag last year by stating, “I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach.”
Give him credit for telling the truth.
In some ways, this behavior should come as no surprise. After all, the modern political left believes in their bones there is no ill government cannot fix. Say what you will about U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders or U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, at least they are being honest about their desire to transform America into a European-style socialist nation.
Democrats who do not have the luxury of running in deep blue parts of the country – such as New Hampshire’s Maggie Hassan – are forced to hide their true beliefs and hope voters look past their voting records every six years. They make empty promises about being an “independent voice” and then proceed to vote with their party leaders nearly 100 percent of the time.
Meanwhile, the federal government is unable to execute the tasks it should be doing well. Our cities are overrun with crime. Liberal prosecutors are releasing criminals on little or no bail. The southern border is wide open. Illegal drugs are wiping out an entire generation. One year ago, on this president’s watch, Kabul fell to the Taliban. Two decades of American blood, sweat and tears washed away. It was right to wind down the military conflict in Afghanistan, but the way this president went about it was anything but.
The left argues only tax cheats have anything to worry about at the swarm of new IRS agents. They have no respect or understanding for entrepreneurs grinding it out every day in the private sector trying to make payroll. That is because most of them have never had to do it. They have spent their lives on the taxpayer dole, cashing a cushy paycheck every two weeks.
According to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office, audits of taxpayers making under $400,000 are poised to account for nearly $20 billion in revenue for the so-called Inflation Reduction Act – breaking Biden’s promise not to raise taxes on middle-income earners.
So even if you’re lucky enough to avoid a visit from an IRS agent knocking at your door or snooping through your bank account, just remember the left’s overreach into our everyday lives will never stop unless we stop them. After all, if the home of a former president isn’t safe, no one is.
There is another way. We can stand up to government overreach if we change leadership in Washington. A key tenet of my American Strength agenda is the strong defense of our liberties. When I get to the United States Senate you can be guaranteed I will check this unwarranted intrusion by the long arm of the government and make sure our liberties are protected. Granite Staters can count on me to fight for them.
