“We’ve had an 8 percent decline in the use of gasoline already, year on year… That’s indicative of a pretty horrendous recession we’re into…. That’s driven down the price of gas by itself by about 22 percent in the last month or so… That’s a supply and demand issue… Nothing to do with the … reduction of the petroleum reserves… What he’s now talking about doing is beginning to use the petroleum reserve as a funnel to continue to ship it abroad… We’re going to go on a buying binge to refill it at a hundred bucks a barrel… without taking action to unleash production. That’s going to draw supply off the market” and raise prices for the rest of us.
