Rudy Giuliani said President Trump could sue the Washington Post for its false reporting on his phone call with a Georgia election investigator.
“They always do a story that hurts Trump,” Giuliani said.
The correction to a story two months later that President Trump did not say “find the fraud,” shows clear recklessness, Giuliani said.
“You’ve got a district attorney general trying to indict President Trump over these phone calls,” said Stephen K. Bannon.
The Washington Post relied on just one anonymous source. Raheem Kassam said the correction exposed the paper’s total lack of journalistic standards. Giuliani said the source would have to be revealed, “if the president sued.”
For defamation cases to be successful under Times v. Sullivan, the case must show reckless disregard for the truth.
“This is as reckless as you could possibly be,” said Giuliani. “I think the president would have a very good lawsuit.”
