Law.com reports that the Berman Law Group of Boca Raton (which is renowned for its class action lawsuits) has set its sights on the biggest fish yet: the People’s Republic of China. Law.com reports:
There is a lot of blame to go around for the coronavirus outbreak, but one plaintiffs attorney took his gripes to court, filing a nationwide class action against the People’s Republic of China for causing the global pandemic.
In a lawsuit filed Thursday, attorney Matthew Moore, of Boca Raton, Florida’s The Berman Law Group, alleged China’s failure to report and contain the virus more quickly, or disclose the actual number of cases, created “essentially a giant Petri dish†in the region near Wuhan, sparking the global COVID-19 outbreak. The case alleges claims of negligence, emotional distress, public nuisance and strict liability for “conducting ultrahazardous activity.â€
“The PRC and the other defendants knew that COVID-19 was dangerous and capable of causing a pandemic, yet slowly acted, proverbially put their head in the sand, and/or covered it up for their own economic self-interest,†the complaint says. “The defendants’ conduct has caused and will continue to cause personal injuries and deaths, as well as other damages.â€
